Jim Wilmer & Sons can also provide a windfarm clearance service to our customers. With a fleet consisting over 60 machines, we have the fire power to harvest very large areas of forest in a short space of time.
Past windfarm projects
Arrecleoch Windfarm - RTS
This contract was for a total of 120,000 tonnes to harvest and extract within a strict deadline of 1 year. The site was situated in Barrhill, South Ayrshire.
This contract demanded in excess of 20 machines (harvesters and forwarders) to blitz this very large area of work in just 1 year.he majority of the crop was very immature making production a very slow process, hence the need for so many machines.
The terrain on this site was very soft with peat, therefore selection of machinery was vital. Light weight machines such as Doosan harvesters with wide tracks and lightweight forwarders with flotation tyres and tracks were our preferred choice. These were used specifically for the soft areas of terrain and a range of machinery for all other general areas.
Markhill Windfarm - RTS
Markhill was for a total of 63,000 tonnes to harvest and extract within a strict deadline of 1 year. The site is also situated in Barrhill, South Ayrshire.
Machinery was chosen on the same basis and the same methods employed to complete the work.
Due to the extremely soft ground, debogging of machinery was necessary. We were able to recover machines quickly and efficiently using our own low loader, debogging digger and winch.
Throughout the duration of both contracts, machine downtime was kept to a minimum due to the support of our 8 field service engineers .
As with all contracts our health and safety management and procedures were of utmost importance with regards to being selected to work these sites.
Both contracts were successfully completed on time to the satisfaction of our customer.
